September 1, 2013: Datatronics is in compliance with 2011/65/EU Directive.

To all our valued customers:

Subject: Reduction of Hazardous Substance (RoHS) Compliance

Datatronics, an environmentally responsible company, is committed to meeting the product compliance deadline of July 1, 2006 as set forth by the European Union legislation. In order for us to achieve this goal, it has been determined that we should share our goals with our customers as outline in the enclosed text.

With this in mind, Datatronics is communicating the following to you.

All Datatronics standard catalog part numbers are in compliance as of March 15, 2006 and this is noted by using bar code labels with RoHS compliant statement. Also other part numbers can be furnished RoHS compliant by request by contacting the factory to have a special part number assigned. RoHS compliant parts are shipped in packaging materials that are marked using green labels to indicate compliance.

For all military, medical or aerospace part number, RoHS does not require compliance to the directive. However, if you feel your product must meet the requirement, please submit in writing your desires and goals for our staff review. Depending upon your requirements, this could take up to 3 months. The expense of any re-qualification or design verification testing required will be negotiated with the customer on a case by case basis.

For all other custom part numbers, many of our commercial customers have requested our RoHS status. The primary change requested is in the use of lead (Pb) free solders. Each case will need individual review to determine if your drawing requires solder that is other than lead free or if a customer drawing exists at all. If no customer drawing exists, our individual documentation will be reviewed. In both cases, change request to lead free must come from our customers.

Datatronics standard solder is SN96AG4. In some cases, it may be necessary to use a solder composition that contains greater than 85% lead for internal solder joints of SMD components to ensure compatibility with an elevated temperature reflow profile. Such internal solder connections are permissible due to the exemption listed in the European Directive 2002/95/EC Annex (paragraph 7).

Datatronics will rely heavily on our suppliers and vendors to provide materials meeting the restricted substances requirement of RoHS. If specific percentages of restricted materials are needed, testing may be necessary. The testing will be quoted on case by case bases. Substitute material and testing can affect unit pricing.

Please submit all requests to your Datatronics' customer service representative. If you have any questions, please contact me with your questions.

Sincerely,

Tom Blaskovich
